Swedish Massage

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage addresses the deepest muscles layers and connective tissues. This may include trigger point therapy and or frictioning to release sore spots and adhesions in muscle and fascia. It can loosen connective tissue and muscles, increase joint mobility and range of motion. Using the principles of massage and working through the layers of muscle and fascia within your comfort level should relieve your issue without adding undue discomfort.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction

Addresses disorders of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints used in the action of mastication (chewing). TMJ Dysfunction is very common and can cause head, jaw and ear pain. It can be caused by muscle imbalance, postural dysfunction, sinus blockage, muscle overuse, stress, grinding of teeth, jaw clenching and misalignment of teeth. Contributing factors might be trauma to neck or face, tooth loss, gum chewing, trigger points and tight muscles resulting in malocclusion (improper opening and closing) there may also be disc displacement in the joint or inflammation.

 

To treat TMJ, a combination of extra-oral (outside the mouth) and intra-oral (inside the mouth) techniques may be employed to access the structures involved. Your therapist will use sterile technique and a gloved hand for any intra-oral work. If you are experiencing frontal headaches, jaw pain, clicks and pops when you eat, painful mouth closing you may want to ask your therapist about TMJ treatment.
